Behind the Scenes with Lonesome Pine
A collaboration born from storytelling
Cassini Films was proud to collaborate with Lonesome Pine on the creation of behind-the-scenes content and Electronic Press Kit (EPK) content for The Feud, a major television drama filmed entirely across the North East of England. The project brought together an exceptional cast and crew to tell a compelling story rooted in universal themes while drawing strength from the region’s distinctive landscapes, communities, and character, showcasing the magic behind the scenes.
The purpose of the production was not simply to document the making of the drama, but to capture the energy, creativity, and ambition that existed behind the camera. Working closely with producers, directors, cast members, and department heads, we created content that revealed the craftsmanship involved in bringing a large-scale television drama to life.
As a production company with deep roots in the region, Cassini Films understood the importance of showcasing both the story on screen and the people responsible for making it happen. The result was a collection of behind-the-scenes films and EPK materials designed to support publicity, marketing, broadcaster communications, and industry engagement while preserving a valuable record of the production itself.
Bringing the region’s stories to life
Set against the backdrop of the North East, The Feud explores themes of family, loyalty, identity, and the tensions that arise when personal relationships are placed under pressure. The emotional depth of the drama provided a rich foundation for our documentary approach.
Our role was to translate the atmosphere and intensity of the production into engaging and accessible content. Through carefully crafted interviews, observational filming, and cinematic coverage of the production process, we were able to provide audiences with a unique perspective on how the drama was created.
We spent time with cast members discussing character development and performance, while also capturing the expertise of department heads responsible for cinematography, design, costume, lighting, and sound. These conversations revealed the level of collaboration required to create authentic drama and highlighted the passion that existed across every department.
Alongside these interviews, we documented the day-to-day reality of a working drama set. From early morning preparations through to complex shooting setups, our cameras captured the moments that audiences rarely see. These insights helped build a fuller picture of the dedication, problem-solving, and teamwork that underpin high-end television production.
A sense of place and pride
One of the defining qualities of The Feud is its connection to the North East. The region is more than simply a backdrop to the story; it forms part of the drama’s identity. Through our behind-the-scenes coverage, we sought to celebrate the locations, talent, and production infrastructure that made the series possible.
Filming took place across a range of rural and urban environments, showcasing the visual diversity of the region. These locations provided striking cinematic settings while reinforcing the authenticity of the narrative. By capturing both the landscapes and the people who work within them, we were able to create content that reflected a genuine sense of place.
Through a combination of carefully framed visuals and character-driven interviews, we produced a behind-the-scenes feature that highlighted the growing strength of the North East as a destination for television production. The EPK became more than a promotional tool; it became a showcase for the region’s creative potential and an example of the quality of work that can be achieved here.
At a time when increasing numbers of productions are choosing to film in the North East, projects such as The Feud demonstrate the value of local crews, facilities, and creative expertise. Capturing that momentum was an important part of the story we wanted to tell.
Behind every frame, a community
Large-scale television drama is built on collaboration, and The Feud was no exception. Working alongside Lesley Douglas and the talented team at Lonesome Pine reinforced the importance of collective effort in delivering ambitious storytelling.
Every department played a vital role in shaping the production. From lighting technicians and camera crews to assistant directors, art department teams, costume designers, makeup artists, and local supporting artists, countless individuals contributed their skills and experience to the finished programme. Our objective was to ensure that this contribution was visible within the behind-the-scenes content.
The production also demonstrated the strength of the North East screen sector, bringing together experienced professionals and emerging talent in a project of significant scale. Capturing these working relationships helped communicate the collaborative culture that exists within the region’s creative industries.
Cassini Films’ background in broadcast television and documentary storytelling informed the editorial approach throughout the project. By combining observational footage with carefully structured interviews, we created films that balanced technical insight with emotional resonance. The final content provided audiences with a deeper understanding of the production process while retaining the warmth, personality, and human stories that sit behind every successful drama.
The Feud stands as a powerful example of what can be achieved when strong storytelling, creative ambition, and regional talent come together. We were delighted to help document that journey and contribute to the wider story of television production in the North East.
